Welcome back, today I want to talk about something that has been a issue to me for a while now. I've always had anxiety but never really had a name for it. In a way I never really gave myself a chance to process it as a Black woman, as often we are told that anxiety isn't a "real" issue or concern growing up.
That is, until I had an major anxiety attack, I remember being frozen, physically stopped by my complete overall fear of the outcome of a situation. I remember going home scared & upset, angry over the fact that I could not conquer or push down the anxiety that consumed me. So I went searching for answers and solutions and after watching interviews with psychologists, counselors, and doctors I compiled a routine that not only help me recognize my anxiety but how to deal with it.
Today, I will share with you all a few actions that you can take to improve how you navigate and eventually conquer my anxiety. Here's a practical list that you can use in your day to day life ( do what you can and what works for you). Make a plan to add at least 3 activities to your schedule this week. :
- exercise (running, swimming, yoga)
- take vitamins, supplements (Ashwagandha, Omega-3 fatty acids, Kava kava, Green tea)
- use essential oils (Lavender, Rose, Sandalwood, Ylang Ylang)
- journaling (exploring your thoughts & emotions)
- stop putting things off
- listen to music
- taking care of a plant(s)
- taking care of a pet (s)
- eat right, eat better
- sleep - rest
- take deep breaths, meditate (focus on your breathing)
- JOURNALING PROMPT -
" What is one way your depression or anxiety has held you back this week? What could you do to change that? "
I hope this was helpful and you find something that you can implement in your life.
To you With Love,
Alexus
