College Truths: Part 1

Dear incoming freshmen,
College will change you. Hey luvs, I am going to tell you ten truths about college, this will be part 1.

1. High School friends will not be your friends for long

Sadly, this is the most accurate truth you'll run into. Most freshman will end up losing majority of their high school friends in the first semester. For others the process will be slow and happen over a course of your college years. I'm not saying that you will lose all your friends, I'm just saying be prepared to lose some. It's nothing to be sad over, people grow and change. The environment you are placed in tends to have an affect on you.

2. The College Party Myth Exposed

If you go to a party school that's great, but if you don't that's fine as well. Just because your school isn't ranked on that list doesn't mean they'll be no parties. In reality, parties do not happen often on a lot of campuses, yes frats and sororities do have their fair share of parties but a lot of them are events held in greek life  or you'll get the parties in heavy flow at the beginning of the semester, right before finals, and after finals. If you're on a quarter system there is not much deviation. Most "parties" fall into two categories:
- House parties (invite tons of ppl to party)
- The kickbacks (invite a certain amount of ppl to chill)
Most likely you'll be going out to places more than to parties, if you are expecting raging parties everyday or every week, I'm going to need you to wake up.

3. College Relationships and what they really are

This is a trickie one. In your first two years you might meet a really amazing person and think we are going to be together until after we graduate etc. Hate to rain on your parade but 9 out of 10, it isn't going to last. I'm not saying it's impossible, but you are young and new to this whole new chapter in your life. You are going to be exposed to different cultures, religions, mindsets, and all types of people from all walks of life. This is the time most students figure out what they want and do not want in a relationship, so by the time your a junior/senior you already know what to avoid. To be honest you may hookup more than you date and that is okay.

4. SEX, SEX, & MORE SEX

Ah, sex! Okay so this a topic that needs more than just a paragraph and I'll probably end up doing another post on this alone. But sex in college is well, it is a normal thing.
You will either have a lot of it in college because there's more freedom or you'll won't.
Students losing their virginity once they enter college is also common.
There is also students who get their fill of it and abstain from sex, yes they exist.
The thing about sex in college that will determine your experiences is how you go about it.
The choices you make and all the other factors like pressure,
relationships, and/or environment will have a major effect on your experiences.
Of course there is it's scary side like sex at parties and sex under the influence, which as I said needs more than a paragraph to address.

5. You aren't an adult yet and it's sorta okay

Don't rush to try to fill this adult criteria, take your time to figure out what you want out of your life and how you want to live it.
While you know you are in college now, that won't last forever and we all know this.
The "don't have a job nor want one" types and gets help from their family exists.
The "do have a job" types exists.
One piece of advice I can give all is to get some real world experience because you'll need it and that's something that can't be taught in a classroom.
Whether it's a job or an internship, do something because it'll help you in the future.
Most students need to figure out whether they will be dorming vs. living at home
vs. living in an apartment.
      * all probably paid using financial aid and your parents $$$*
And that's okay because we need to take things a step at a time.

The thing about college is that if are willing, you grow as time goes on.
That ends PART I of my series, if you have ideas of what I should add to this series then leave me some comments.

- Sincerely Fay,
